VOCABULARY POWER BOOSTER – CLASS 10 ENGLISH

20 Must-Know Synonyms & Antonyms from First Flight

A Click-and-Reveal Exam Preparation Activity

🎯 How to Use This Activity for Maximum Advantage

1. 👀 Show Only the Key Word

Display the word on the screen. Do not reveal the answers immediately.

Example:

DESPAIR

Ask students:

  • What does this word mean?
  • Can you think of a synonym?
  • Can you think of an antonym?

2. 🙋 Think → Pair → Share

Give students 20–30 seconds to think individually.

Then let them discuss their answer with a partner.

Finally, ask a few students to answer aloud.

3. 🖱️ Click SYNONYM

Ask students to predict the synonym before clicking the button.

Then click SYNONYM and let students check their answer.

4. 🖱️ Click ANTONYM

Repeat the same process.

Students should first predict the antonym and then click ANTONYM to verify it.

5. 📝 Make Students Write

Ask students to maintain a Vocabulary Power Notebook.

For every word, they should write:

Word → Synonym → Antonym → Own Sentence

Example:

Despair → Hopelessness → Hope → He lost hope.

6. 🏆 Use a Quick Scoring Challenge

Give students 2 marks for each word:

  • 1 mark – Correct synonym
  • 1 mark – Correct antonym

20 words × 2 = 40 marks

This turns the activity into a mini vocabulary test.

7. 🔄 Repeat with Spaced Revision

Use the same PPT at different intervals:

Day 1: Learn all 20 words
Day 3: Quick oral revision
Day 7: Written test
Day 15: Random oral test
Before Exam: Final rapid revision

⭐ Most Important Rule

Never click the answer first.

Make students:

THINK → PREDICT → ANSWER → CLICK → CHECK → WRITE → USE

This simple cycle will make the activity much more effective than merely showing students a list of synonyms and antonyms.

🚀 Bonus Classroom Challenge

Divide the class into two teams.

Show a word such as TRIUMPH.

Ask Team A for the synonym and Team B for the antonym.

Award 1 point for each correct answer.

At the end, announce the Vocabulary Champions. 🏆

This will make the PPT not just a revision resource, but a highly interactive exam-preparation activity.
