Reported Speech: Assertive Sentences
Assertive sentences are statements that express facts, opinions, or feelings. When reporting these sentences, we follow these rules:
Rules for Changing Assertive Sentences to Indirect Speech
1. Remove quotation marks and use a reporting verb like said, told, informed, stated, mentioned, claimed, explained, declared, assured, admitted, denied, etc.
Change the pronouns as needed.
Change the tense (if the reporting verb is in the past).
Change time and place references if necessary.
