Active & Passive Voice: Drag & Drop Grammar Exercise

Rules for Converting Active to Passive Voice

  • Identify the subject, verb, and object of the active sentence.
  • Move the object of the active sentence to the position of the subject in the passive sentence.
  • Change the main verb to the past participle form (e.g., "ate" becomes "eaten").
  • Add a form of the auxiliary verb "to be" (is, am, are, was, were, will be, etc.) before the main verb. The tense of "to be" must match the tense of the active verb.
  • Move the original subject of the active sentence to the end of the passive sentence. Add the preposition "by" before it.

Example:

  • Let's use the sentence: "The dog chased the cat."
  • Subject: The dog Verb: chased Object: the cat
  • Move the object ("the cat") to the subject position: "The cat..."
  • Change the verb "chased" to its past participle form: "chased."
  • Add a form of "to be" that matches the past tense of "chased." We use "was." "The cat was chased..."
  • Move the original subject ("the dog") to the end, adding "by." "The cat was chased
  •  by the dog."

Now Practice the Drag and Drop Exercise keeping the above rules in mind. πŸ‘‡
