Ancestral Tree Project: Digging Up Your Roots!
Ancestral Tree Project: Digging Up Your Roots!
This summer project is a fun way to explore your family history and create a cool ancestral tree diagram chart! Here's what you'll need to do:
Materials:
Large sheet of paper (construction paper or chart paper)
Pencils, crayons, markers, or colored pencils (get creative!)
Scissors (optional, for pictures)
Glue (optional, for pictures)
Pictures of family members (optional)
Instructions:
Plan the Tree:
Draw the trunk of a tree in the center of the paper. This represents you!
Branch out from the trunk two main limbs, one for your mom's side (left) and one for your dad's side (right).
Add Parents and Grandparents:
At the end of each main branch, draw two circles or squares. These represent your parents. Label them "Mom" and "Dad".
Above each parent, draw another two circles or squares. These represent your grandparents. Label them accordingly (e.g., "Mom's Mom", "Mom's Dad", "Dad's Mom", "Dad's Dad").
Go Further Back (Optional):
If you have information about your great-grandparents, you can add even more branches above your grandparents. Just follow the same pattern of two circles or squares per set of parents.
Decorate and Personalize:
Decorate your tree with leaves, flowers, or birds!
You can also add pictures of yourself and your family members (if available) by gluing them next to their corresponding names.
Get creative and make your family tree unique!
Bonus:
Interview your parents or grandparents to learn more about your family history.
Find out interesting facts about your ancestors, like their professions, hobbies, or where they lived.
You can even add these details next to their names on the tree.
Tips:
Use different colors for each generation (e.g., green for you, blue for parents, red for grandparents).
Write neatly and clearly so everyone can easily read the names.
Don't worry if you don't have information about all your ancestors. Just fill in what you know and have fun!
This project is a great way to learn about your family and connect with your heritage. Have a blast exploring your family tree!
